Fingal Data Hub

I would like to make you aware of a fantastic resource that is available through Fingal Development Board. The data hub has statistical information about Fingal which can be useful for backing up arguments for funding applications. It highlights where needs lie in the county by comparing individual DEDs (Electoral divisions) in terms of primary school numbers, affordable housing or pharmacies for example.

This link is www.fdb.ie/fingaldatahub and its easily accessed through an email registration. It’s the first of its kind in the country so why not take a look and hopefully it’ll be useful to you in the future. If you know of anyone else who may find this useful please pass on the link.

There are new data items published on the Fingal Data Hub which you may find very interesting.

Voter Turnout

Voter turnout for the 2004 Local Election and the 2007 General Election. This data is generally taken to indicate the level of support and engagement with the political process. Rural areas normally have higher turnouts than urban areas. Also the level of literacy, wealth and socio-economic status of a district will also have an influence on voter turnout. The data for Fingal shows that Castleknock which is Fingal’s least deprived district is also always near the top of the list in terms of turnout (76% of all registered voters attended the polling stations).

Road Accidents

The data published on the hub shows all the road accidents does not distinguish the severity of the accidents and relates to a broad period of time 1990 to 2005. It shows that areas with higher rates generally are near, or are traversed by National routes and Motorways but also have residential development perhaps implying that a mixture of traffic types can present a higher risk.

Community Groups

The number of community groups in a district shows how well the local community supports itself through volunteering and being organised. The data relates to 2009 and if compared to the data for 2006 shows that Fingal has a burgeoning Community sector growing from 953 to 1012 (or 6%) in the three year period. This reflects the growth in population and the demand to get to know neighbours and people with similar interests be they sport, art or other activities.
