Well folks,

If it's not bad enough having to spend the day fixing bugs, I'm now finding a significant number in my kitchen

They are small brown fella's, and have been around quite a number of weeks now. I cannot figure out for the life of me where the insufferable feckers are coming from! They congregate primarily over the presses in the corner of our kitchen (close-ish to cooker vent). I thought the vent might have been it, but it doesn't look like it. There are no other holes I can find anywhere that might explain it. I have yet to take the washing machine out and check behind that, but it still wouldn't explain why they all appear in the place they do?!

Anyone else have this? I am in Castlegate Green.

Driving me mad they are :ytongue:

any more description on these brown bugs....wings? legs? spiderlike?

They could have come in with anything, fruit, furniture or even a Christmas tree.

Thing is to stop them breeding, I would spray the tops of the cupboards every morning before you leave with a bug spray.

Hi Wam,

They're very small, and have no wings. They're legs are almost unnoticable. In otherwords they just look like small brown round dots :smile4:

With fruit or food - eh? Hmmm, we keep our presses clean but maybe the one beside where they are I'll empty out again, clean with some spray etc and restock. I can't see where else they could be coming from?

Many thanks.

these are food lice - they can come in from bags of flour/sugar. I actually didn't notice them in my press until I had an epidemic!!
It took about 3 weeks of daily cleaning with domestos and spray disinfectant to get rid of them all. watch out for blue dots in crevices/handles anywhere they can get into. these are the eggs and will hatch.

"Control of stored food pests is a job for the homeowner. You have all of the tools needed to solve this problem on your own. Treating with pesticides is not necessary. Locating the source of the infestation is the key to control. These pests will infest cereals, grains, chocolate, nuts, spices, pet food, beans, and many other dry formulations. Inspect all packages - old and new. These tiny creatures can bore through new packages and go unnoticed for a remarkably long period of time. All packages found to be contaminated should be destroyed. Remove all products and thoroughly clean shelves for debris that might provide food for crawling larva. Normally it will take a few days before all flying adults disappear after the food source has been removed."

Hi,

I do not think they are food lice Niamo (but could be wrong). No flying adults. No source in food. Tiny brown dots that you only notice because they move!!

We had those when we first moved in every room... not just the kitchen. Particularly on the window stills. I think there are old posts about this.
They are usually around the seals or wood in the bathrooms/kitchen sink/ window stills through the house which are damp maybe from condensation.

Hard to spot

Recently they came back in one of the kitchen presses (:what: :puke: )which has never contained food. We think it came from a dish which has been left on the window and then put away in the press....

Was away over the weekend, so only got back to this now.

Thanks to those of you who replied with sensible answers / solutions. It's interesting to know that we are not the only ones who've had this problem.

Thankfully the long term posters here are always helpful. For those who have nothing better to do than make idiotic comments find a play room somewhere.

Sorry, but some of the comments made here are ridiculous. And for the record, our house is kept immaculate!

That is all.

I'm on the Green too, and have spotted a few of these fellas. Tried to identify them on the web, but couldn't. Look a bit like tiny brown ants. Mainly see them in the bathrooms, or just inside the front door. Just 1 or 2 together, except for the top of the washing machine, where we found a load of them at one stage! All clear now TG. I'd guess they are just native to the fields that we were built on?

I did the same - couldn't find them anywhere.

We need to take a photo and magnify it

I know it's a sad way to spend a Friday night, but I have spent the last 20 mins googling insects....no joy except it's not a flea or a mite,
and I have found a 10 week course on insect identification:biggrin:

Sad Friday nite activity but all in the interest of science :) Have you tried http://www.whatsthatbug.com/ - on the left you can search under insect type. I just can't go through all those pics...my nites will be full of nightmares as it is. I emailed the people who run the site asking if they can identify AdamBug.

Epitaph was right I think...pregnant not just with Horror. The last thing it did was begin giving birth. I have a small video to prove it if anyone wants to see. That's it now folks - I done with bugs in microscopes!

Brilliant pics G. Thanks. I had a feeling it could be pregnant because it was a bit bigger than the usual ones I see.
Looks to me like Psocoptera of the wingless variety (Booklice) who like all the wood in my house...

Well done Giant . Ive heard they can live in Clothes mountains that are left on the floor - and even in piles of shoes... Book Lice? - time to get rid of any book, leaflet or magazine thats over a year old then.... and boxes - Im sure you have nothing like that...
