I have begun to hear sounds from other adjacent units of late. I am in a duplex on Castlegate crescent and I can hear the people in the house next to me at night. At the moment I am the only one occupying a duplex in the crescent so I am a bit worried whether this noise will increase once others move in. Is anyone else experiencing noise? I thought these units were supposed to be fitted with state-of-the-art sound proofing??

Have had some problems with those above me, but it was due to excessively loud music rather than "household" noises coming through.

Has the noise been very noticable. Just bought a duplex and am worried about excessive noise.

I've been in my duplex on the Crescent for a few months now and it has been very quiet...but no one has moved into the duplex right beside me - the other side is the big gap leading onto the Newcastle Rd. New Years eve was an exception...apt above had a party...could hear nearly everything going on up there but it was New years. Not a sound since.

hi there,
we're overlooking Newcastle Rd and find the traffic noise is very noticable. Soundproofing isn't the best quality. Maybe they should plant high trees just beside the road or maybe a high evergreen hedge cause to be honest we won't be loosing much of a view...
does anybody else find their soundproofing and doubleglazing very dissapointing?
And does anybody know when are we getting those traffic lights to reduce the speed of cars and trucks?

We live near the entrance of Castlegate Way and are woken up really early every morning by the stream of cars and hugh lorries and trucks driving up to the site, is there not another entrance they can use up near the units under construction at the playground?? The window glazing seems totally unable to keep the noise out, strange as I remember the sound-proofing was excellent in the showhouse unit we viewed in Feb 06. Very disappointing!

Moved in 5/6 weeks ago.Very happy so far .There is noise but you have to remember that there was not as much construction going on in Feb 06.The building work is progressing very quickly and should be all over in a few months. It wouldn't make sense for the builders to direct to another route considering the contruction that is going on is barely more than a stones throw away.A trip to the chemist for some ear plugs would be more feasible if your been woken up early in the morning.
(Remember) Adamstown is one of the biggest towns to be built in Europe and people would be foolish to think that there would not be any teething problems along the way.

True Johnny C, there is more work going on now but most of the trucks and lorries pass through the barrier and continue on up towards the back of the site. Its not as if the other entrance is a million miles away and there are no residents living there to disturb. Ear plugs dont work but maybe a move into the back bedroom might.

I am in an end duplex and even though there is only somebody on one side and above I find the most noise comes from above, this is just general household noise not their fault, I can hear their washing machine and their water pump when they are going. Also the early morning construction traffic but not to worried about that as it is only on weekdays and eventually will go away but am a bit worried about the noise levels from other households. There is a monitor available you can get to monitor the noises I need to do a bit more research into it and I will put up a post when i find out more information.

Hi,

awoke at 5.30am Monday, 5am today Tuesday. I use earplugs. Am on Castlegateway, just about 100m or so in off the Newcastle Road. Our main bedroom is 3rd floor at front. All traffic on Newcastle Road is clearly audible and quite loud. The sound just seems to magnify as it travels. The soundproofing or double glazing is completely inadeqate or faulty. I can even hear conversation below on the pavement.

My wife and I may have to abandon sleeping in main bedroom and move to rear, as I cant work properly on broken sleep.

Long term, I can see us putting in extra glazing/proofing. Floor to ceiling windows look nice, but you might as well have no windows , as the noise is horrendous. I presume the noise at very front of Adamstown on Newcastle Road is worse. Anytime I walk past the huge opening at the very front, the traffic noise is v bad.

After all is said and done, one would expect higher standard of comfort.

I wouldn't be too sure of that fact, the plan for Adamstown is about 10,000 houses, there are plenty of bigger towns in Europe.

I was able to feel it because of the crazy traffic, when i came back from Adamstown ! Remember this is even before the development of Adamstown and The Paddocks is complete...

I cant even imaging the situation after all the people move in...charter a helicopter?

Have to say I think the soundproofing is excellent. Sure, our own water pump sounds like a kango hammer but I'm sure we'll get used to it. We rarely notice cars or vans outside. We're in a house on Chase, maybe there were initial teething problems with the sound insulation in the earlier builds, and this was ironed-out / improved by the time they got to us??

Does anyone know if there are any rules about how late people can make noise, ie hammering, drilling etc?

Also, when i came home yesterday there was no parking space left! I think it's going to be a big issue.

Thanks.

hi, i've noticed in many apartments in Dublin (Lucan in particular) that really loud water pumps are used even with the cold water. Is this the case in adamstown? Does anyone know if all the water goes through the pressurised system, or just the hot water. Also does the combi boiler not supply hot water also. if they are necessary, shouldn't they be enclosed in sound proof material. Surely this is not rocket science. If there is a plumber out there, could you comment on this please. thanks

yeah, i was wondering about the water pump myself. switch on the tap to brush your teeth and its like having the M50 on your landing. I could be wrong, but i reckon theres a chance that they are cheap as crap pumps, and if you go out and spend a few hundred lids on a really good one, then it will be really quiet...

would be interested to hear from a plumber / bob the builder on this one !

Hi, we have moved in about 3-4 weeks now and are finding that the insulation between our duplex and the next unit is not very satisfactory. One night we were woken by the child next door singing in her bedroom (about 2am). Sometimes we can even hear their water pump or toilet flushing! I know this is not our neighbours fault as it is house hold noises, but they often decide to do some DIY which envolves extensive drilling at 12 or 1am. This is becoming a bit of a problem as both myself and my partner have a early 6am start. I understand that drilling is to be expected when neighbours move in first but our neighbours moved 3 weeks before us, and I still think drilling should be finished before 10pm!

Has anyone else had this problem, and how did u resolve it, as I really don't want to fall out with our neighbours!

Drilling at midnight seems a bit excessive !!!! Might be worth heading next door with a cup of sugar and just politley asking if they mind keeping the loud DIY before 9 or 10 as you have an early start.

take the suggestion of popping over with a cup of sugar, and politely tell them to stop that nonsense ... I can agree, one would expect a bit of noise initially, but that is still a tad too late to be doing DIY type stuff.

maximus

or you could change tack.... go over with a cup of flour.... and if they refuse to stop drilling at midnight, throw it in their eyes and run hehehehe

Yeh, I think I'll give them another week and if the late night DIY persists I'll try the cup of sugar idea. I would rather not have to call over at all as I don't want any bad feeling!
